Moving the World’s Energy: Maritime at the Centre of the Global Energy Transition

Rising global energy demand will require an ever-greater volume of oil and LNG/LPG to be transported by ship. The energy transition to low-carbon and renewable fuels, including ammonia and methanol, will also require additional shipping volumes. 

Industrial carbon capture and storage (CCS) processes in Europe, Asia, and US have ramped up the demand for LCO2 carriers. 

Objectives:

• Is shipping ready to meet the increased demands for energy transportation brought about by the energy transition?
•  The Middle East, as well as countries such as India, Brazil, and Namibia, will become increasingly important as producers of renewable fuels. How will the new trade routes opened by these developments impact shipping operations and investment? 
• As part of the global carbon value chain, shipping will be integral for transporting CO2 captured at industrial emissions sites to storage clusters. What regulations and policy incentives do shipowners want to see to convince you to invest in this area? 
• Further to this, what needs to be done in terms of port infrastructure to facilitate the safe and efficient offloading of new fuels safely and efficiently? 
• How will declining demand for oil and coal shipping force tanker operators to adapt to new energy cargo?
